Christian Shephard (Actor: John Terry)
Biography: Christian Shephard is Jack and Claire's father, Margo's husband, and Aaron Littleton's grandfather. He was the Chief of Surgery at St. Sebastian's Hospital where Jack also worked, and attended his wedding with Sarah. Christian faces an uncertain status in regards to whether he is alive or dead.
In the episode: The Missing Pieces, Christian is seen telling the dog, Vincent, to go look for Jack. This scene actually happens moments before the events of the pilot episode.
A surgeon whose son, Jack, followed in his footsteps. A flawed person, Christian was an alcoholic and his addiction led him to make a mistake during an operation -- a misstep Jack reported, leading to Christian losing his job. It was then that Christian severed the ties with his son. After this event, he sunk deeper into his alcoholism and made his way to Australia with Ana Lucia who came as his bodyguard, wanting to see his (unseen) illegitimate daughter. This daughter was revealed to be Claire in "Par Avion", and although she now knows that he exists, she didn't want to know his name. He eventually died in Australia, never reconciling with his son. He met Sawyer in a bar which is where he said "That's why the Sox won't win the Series". Jack said this quote and Sawyer realized that he had met Jack's father.
Christian seems to be connected to a lot of people on the island. He is the father of both Jack and Claire, which makes him Aaron's grandfather. Ana Lucia has worked for him and he's had a drink with Sawyer.
Where is his body? ("White Rabbit")
Why was he in Jacob's cabin? ("The Beginning of the End")
When Jack referenced Christian twice in "Through the Looking Glass," many viewers first impulse was that Jack was too zonked on pain pills to remember his dad was dead. Was this wrong? Does Christian Shephard leave the island?
- He was a Red Sox fan, a trait passed down to his son.
- He slammed his car door into Sawyer in Australia.

After seeing the life and death of Jeremy Benthem where Locke is miraculously alive I immediately thought of Christian and think that he must be alive as well. No body in the coffin way back in season 1. Locke remembered his death so Christian would know he had died and would be grateful to the Island and therefore serves it/Jacob. We know the Island can heal.

I've been looking at the page on the episode "The Beginning Of The End" and it seems to be a confirmed fact that Christian Shephard was the man that Hurley sees in the cabin with Jacob. Who the hell found this out??? I didn't know this.
That said, I always thought Jack's father would return from the dead somehow, even before he mentioned him in the last episode of Season 3 as working in the hospital in the future. He's basically one of the main characters and when I re-watched Season 1, I was astonished to be reminded that Jack never actually found his body in the coffin when he went looking for it on the island. Yeah, this is going to be a MAJOR plot point, methinks...

I am looking forward to finding out exactly how Jack (and Claires) father died. And also, any further flashbacks with Claire and her father; did she kill him?? Did he commit suicide from depression?? Will Jack find out that Claire is his sister??
